“Marijuana Legalization Workshop”

A workshop will be held for community members who care about the legalization and retail sale of marijuana in Connecticut. The workshop will be held in Westbrook Public Library’s community room on Wednesday, March 22 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Earlier that day, the Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing on S.B. No. 11, “An Act Concerning the Legalization and Taxation of the Retail Sale of Marijuana.” In the workshop, community members will be briefed on the outcome of that hearing. Next steps will be discussed to resist the legalization of marijuana in Connecticut.

Depending on their availability, local legislators will be present to discuss the marijuana issue and what it means to families.

“A new generation of kids might be growing up with both alcohol and psychotropic drugs as adult recreation. If you have an opinion about this, it’s time to get active. We encourage community members to use our workshops to help persuade legislators to see your point of view,” said Director of Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council Betsey Chadwick.

You are cordially invited to join us for a free community forum, “Painkiller Use to Opiate Abuse to Heroin Epidemic.” The event will be held at the Westbrook Public Library on Monday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m. A panel of four experts will lead the discussion. Panelists include DMHAS Commissioner Delphin-Rittmon, State’s Attorney Peter McShane, State Trooper Wayne Buck, Dr. J. Craig Allen, MD, and from Aware Recovery Care, a young woman in recovery from opiate addiction. As a community, how can we reduce the supply of, and demand for, opiate drugs? How do we prevent people from abusing these drugs and falling prey to addiction? These questions and more will be considered. Audience participation is welcomed and encouraged!
